I stopped at the hardware store yesterday and picked up seeds and tomato plants, so today I dragged out all the pots I could find, filled them with dirt, and planted lettuce, beans, 6 tomato plants of various kinds, dill, and basil. I also found a bird feeder in the garage that wasn’t being used, so I filled that and hung it up. I thought I didn’t have a place for a garden, but there are plenty of sunny spots on the driveway and deck where I can put pots.
I talked with my neighbor across the street this morning when I went for a walk. She teaches at a middle school and her husband teaches at the university. They have a three-year-old and a five-year-old. They just got back from spending two months with her parents in order to have child care so they could work. They are relatively new to the neighborhood, so I hadn’t talked to her much before, but everyone is hungry for human contact now.
