Writing has been a kind of saving grace for me throughout this pandemic. I have spent many hours focusing on a China memoir that I hope will be done before long. Other tasks like writing a Lenten reflection, keeping a diary, writing haiku, dabbling in longer poems, and writing cards to people have likewise engaged my mind.
A thread running through all these activities has been the writing of this blog. It has helped me to keep a sharp eye on what was going on around me as well as within. It impelled me to look for the sweet spots as well as recognize the low points of this long year of the pandemic journey. In addition, I could read about other persons’s lives who were in a different location both physically and sometimes mentally, yet we were all connected by a common concern. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this project for JMU’s archive. I want to keep blogging from time to time with my eyes open to what is still beautiful under the willow oak and beyond.
