How do I become a diarist?
Fill out the form on the website. We will send you information then about logging in.
What should I write about?
What will interest researchers in the future is how the pandemic is affecting everyone’s daily life. This includes everything from the experience of going grocery shopping to taking a walk. It includes interactions with family and neighbors. It includes random observations, like one crew member out of six wearing a mask in a road crew. Try to pay attention to what is going on right around you and become a careful observer.
Why would anyone care about ordinary people’s daily life?
This is an extraordinary time. It is having a profound impact on almost every aspect of life, not just in our country but around the world. We don’t know what the long term effects will be, but people will see it as a turning point and want to look back to understand what happened.
How often should I write?
That is up to you. You can write something everyday or once a week or as often as you like.
Can I write directly on the website?
Yes, sign in and begin writing. You can also cut and paste into the site what you have written already.
Who will read my diary?
By signing up, you give permission for your entries to be read by others, but you will have a nickname, so you will not be identified by your real name. We will pull a quote from one diary a week to highlight.
Where will the diaries end up residing?
This will be determined later, but at that point you will have the option of donating your diary to the archive or not.
